Beat apathy with The Beatles

The creative juices that were coursing through my veins a month ago have all run dry. I feel dull, uninspired, and unmotivated. Not even my favorite caffeine-amphetamine cocktail can shake me loose of the melancholy that’s taken hold of my brain. I have plenty of ideas still, but my newfound nihilism says, “no thanks.”

Obviously, there are others in exceptionally worse situations than mine. But I don’t have the energy to apologize for my privilege. I don’t think anyone does. So, let’s not compare hardships for once and agree on the fact that, for the time being, no one is enjoying themselves.

Sardonic rambling aside - I’m trying to remind myself that positivity and gloom are not mutually exclusive. Emotions are, by nature, temporary. It’s not possible to be sad forever. Likewise, it’s impossible to be constantly happy.  I’m practicing positivity by acknowledging better days are ahead, even if today isn’t one of them.

There are some things that even the most bitter of spirits can’t fight, and one of those is–you guessed it–music. Today, I’m challenging my apathy with a collection of my favorite Beatles songs.  Because, in the midst of social and political global turmoil, these dudes knew how to make the masses give a damn, and I’m no exception.

PS: Across the Universe, arguably one of my favorite movies, is available to stream on Hulu. Highly recommend.
